Our counseling and case management services are the glue that holds all of our other components together. These services help students manage their lives more effectively and prepare them for the challenges of work and independent living.

Our full-time case manager assists students with issues such as housing, parenting, employment, relationships, finances and health. The case manager leads group sessions on conflict resolution, financial literacy, anger management and workplace behavior, and also provides individual counseling sessions when needed or requested. YouthBuild has partnerships with social service providers throughout the city for students in need of further assistance.

Along with a case manager, each student is assigned a staff advisor who provides additional support.

In 2008, YouthBuild Providence introduced a strong mentoring program, which matches students up with adult role models who take an active interest in the success of their mentees. These mentor/coaches, usually identified and selected by the students themselves, attend programs at YouthBuild throughout the year, work with their mentees on both short- and long-term goals, and provide an additional source of support. These relationships led to job opportunities for at least four of our graduates in 2009.

YouthBuild’s support services extend beyond the 10-month program. A full-time career services counselor works with graduates and their employers during the first year after graduation. This support has improved placement and retention rates for our graduates and has expanded the number of employers interested in hiring a YouthBuild graduate.
